1918 – 2004
PETERBOROUGH, N.H. – Christine M. Vose, 85, died Jan. 14, at Monadnock Community Hospital following a long illness.
Born Sept. 16, 1918, in Wilton, she was the daughter of Frank and Inez (Holbrook) Gilbert of Wilton.
When she was 17, she went to Peterborough to work. She met her future husband, E. Francis Vose, and they were married Oct. 12, 1941. He died July 4, 1961.
In 1969, she returned to Wilton to live near her parents. A nurses’ aid, she worked for Dr. Harry Brinkman of Farmington, caring for his wife, and later as his cook and housekeeper. After her parents died, she returned to the Peterborough area in 1988.
She was a member of the Rebekahs and a docent at the Sharon (NH) Arts Center.
She enjoyed cooking and photography. She will be remembered for her sunny disposition, her belief in the goodness of people, and her courage in the face of adversity.
Family members are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Marcia and Roland Patten of Peterborough, Mary Lou Stratton of Bernardston, Mass., and Marilyn and Charles Dignan of Jaffrey, N.H.; a son, David Vose of Jaffrey; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Frank Gilbert Jr. in 1999; and a sister, Maylo Robertson in 1976.
