Power was knocked out for about

45 minutes.

PARIS – A logging truck driver backed into a utility pole on Main Street, knocking down wires and shutting down power to the area for about 45 minutes Thursday night.

Paris police officer Zane Loper said he was not authorized to release the driver’s identity, but did offer details about how the accident occurred.

The driver, he said, was stopping the truck to get coffee at the Irving store.

He backed up on the south side of the highway to park when he hit the pole. The pole snapped and sent wires across the road and truck, he said.

Central Maine Power Co. was called to shut off the line for about 45 minutes, Loper said.

“CMP has done a great job,” he said, and was still at the scene at 10:30 p.m. restoring power to the store.
