Obviously, the officials of Lewiston are not liable or answerable to anyone, especially the property taxpayers of the city. The city of Lewiston flat-out lied a few months ago when we were told they “guaranteed” the $2 million loan for Mr. Theriault. The city of Lewiston gave Mr. Theriault $2 million without any apparent renovation plan or oversight on how the money would be disbursed.
Now, the city of Lewiston wants to buy the civic center from Mr. Theriault, absolve him of the $2 million loan. The city of Lewiston also wants to put another $3 or $4 million into the civic center? I don’t see anyone lining up to buy the civic center other than our brilliant Lewiston city officials.
Let Mr. Theriault keep the civic center. Foreclose on the property. Sell the property at auction and take the financial loss now. Don’t throw additional hard-earned Lewiston taxpayer dollars after bad on a project that will never ever break even. The city of Lewiston should stay out of owning another piece of real estate. Is this the city of Lewiston’s next Bates Mill debacle?
