FARMINGTON – A Chesterville woman pleaded guilty Friday to acquiring drugs by deception. She provided an altered prescription to a Hannaford pharmacist in Jay.

Susan Cabe was slow to answer Justice Joseph Jabar’s questions in Superior Court as she stood beside her attorney, Kevin Joyce.

Jabar asked if she was on medication and she replied “yes.” She was on anti-depressant and pain medication, she said.

After a few minutes, Cabe said she wasn’t clear to what she was pleading guilty to, even though Joyce said he had explained it to her. She said she thought she was pleading guilty to a probation violation charge and the drug charge was to be continued.

Joyce said the matter should be passed so he could explain the issue to Cabe again.

When Cabe came back before Jabar, she repeated her guilty pleas though hesitantly again.

Drug prosecutor David Fisher told the court if the case went to trial, Jay police Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier would have testified that the Police Department received a call from a Hannaford pharmacist last October notifying police that they received a forged prescription.

Fisher said the prescription had been changed in three places: date of birth, address and name.

Fisher said Cabe changed her name to another name because she had been banned from Hannaford pharmacies previously for a similar incident.

Sentencing was delayed until after Cabe has required surgery.

Fisher said he would ask for three years with all but nine months suspended.

Joyce said that he would argue for a lesser sentence.
