PERU – Selectmen at Monday’s meeting were asked for input on two proposed plans for a boat access ramp at Worthley Pond.

The plans, given to board members by the state Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, are for a parcel of land on the east side of the pond owned by the state. The board decided to address the plans at a later meeting when it has had time to consider what is being proposed.

Board members also discussed the long-term projects in a 3- to 5-year road construction plan. The board and the roads commissioner have devised tentative plans to complete several road repair jobs and begin others between now and 2008. The largest project being considered is East Shore Road on Worthley Pond with an estimated price tag of $500,000.

The board signed and returned a letter to the River Valley Growth Council last week, approving of designating the old Diamond Match factory as a Pine Tree Zone. Ron Chartier withheld his signature.

The RVGC is trying to lure a business to occupy the vacant spot near the Dixfield bridge. There was some confusion as to the way the original letter was written, so the board tried to make it clear to the RVGC that it did not want any town funds used for improvements to the property.

“I don’t want my taxes going to pay for someone else’s business when I have my own to worry about,” said Selectman Andy St. Pierre, adding “I think others feel the same way.”
