• 7 a.m. – A three-car wreck on Route 26 totaled a 1998 Ford Escort driven by Heidi Stauffer, 30, of Bethel, and a 2000 Dodge pickup truck driven by Kevin Raven, 43, of Casco. A 2002 Jeep Wrangler, driven by Inzer Gendron, 23, of Minot, sustained $3,000 damage. Icy road conditions caused Stauffer to lose control of her car, which struck the other two vehicles. There were no injuries.

• 7:45 a.m. – A 2002 Ford pickup truck driven by Stephen Wentworth, 59, of Bridgton, was totaled after Wentworth lost control on icy Route 2 east of Bethel Auto Sales. The truck, which rolled over a snowbank, landed on its side against a tree. He was not injured.

• 9:15 a.m. – A 1995 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle sustained $2,500 damage after driver Shirley J. Arsenault, 67, Rumford, lost control on ice-covered Route 2 near Lone Pine Road intersection. The SUV bounced off a guardrail, recrossed both lanes, left the road, destroyed a mailbox and landed in a drainage ditch. Arsenault was uninjured.

“Almost all accidents this time of the year are attributed to going 5 miles per hour too fast. Drivers need to slow down, realize that 4-wheel drive doesn’t help, and be cognizant of road conditions that can change very abruptly,” Police Chief Darren M. Tripp said.
