Jason Dube scores with 15 seconds left as Lewiston edges NYA.

LEWISTON – Come-from-behind victories are becoming a habit for Lewiston’s hockey team this season, and Wednesday night’s matchup against North Yarmouth Academy was no exception.

Jason Dube scored his second goal of the night with 15 seconds left as the Blue Devils overcame a four-goal deficit to top the Panthers 6-5 in a battle of the unbeatens at the Central Maine Civic Center.

“We dug ourselves in a hole in the beginning of the game,” Lewiston coach Tim Smith said. “But we’ve come from behind in more than a couple games this season.”

Lewiston (12-0) trailed 4-0 after Joseph Fortin’s tally in the second period.

But Dube and Joe Gauthier both scored to cut the lead in half at the end of two.

Gauthier froze North Yarmouth netminder Conor Hannan on a beautiful fake, cutting back left and connecting to the bottom left side of the net.

“We knew if we contained the top line we’d be okay. ,” Smith said of prepping for the final period. “We needed to plug holes and take it one goal at a time.”

Danny Cloutier notched a power play goal to pull the Blue Devils to within one before James Sidar answered with his second goal of the night for the Panthers.

Following a quick goal from Jake Girardin and increased checking, Lewiston’s Colby Dufour connected on the game-tying shot, a one-timer on Adam Longchamp’s perfectly placed cross-ice pass.

In the closing seconds, Dube capitalized on a loose puck and walked in one-on-one, placing the winning goal in the top corner of the net.

“No one hung heads during the first period. We stayed positive and changed the game plan to shut down their front line.” Dube said. “In the final play, the puck kicked out to me from a turnover. I pushed it up and pulled back for the shot. The goalie dropped low, and I knew I had to go high.”

“We came out hard,” NYA coach Kent Hulst said. “If we had followed our game plan, we would have done fine, but we started bringing the puck to the middle and guys were trying to do too much. We had the game in our hands, but played disappointing hockey and let it slip away.”
