For the first time in three years, Mount Blue will hold the ceremony at night.

FARMINGTON – When Mount Blue High School graduates the class of 2004 this June, “Pomp and Circumstance” will ring out through the cool night air for the first time in three years.

In a unanimous vote last week, the SAD 9 board of directors opted to accept the class of 2004’s request to move the date and time of graduation from Sunday afternoon to Saturday night at 7 p.m.

It is the first time since 2001 that graduation will be held on Saturday, says Mount Blue High School principal Greg Potter.

The Saturday evening graduation allows graduates to spend more time with families visiting from out of town and doesn’t interrupt Sunday church services or other activities, said Potter.

This year’s move will also give graduates a chance to get some rest before getting up early Sunday morning and heading off on their last trip as a class for Project Graduation.

The class of 2004 is planning an overnight cruise on the Scotia Prince, leaving Sunday, June 13, and returning the next day.

Now that the time, 7 p.m., and the date, Saturday, June 12, have been selected, the location is the only detail still left hanging.

The celebration is expected to be staged on the football field, but if it’s raining, it will take place in the school’s gym.

As for the weather, “We play it by ear,” Potter said.
