BRUNSWICK – The Old Grey Goose band will perform a multimedia concert with live music and video clips from their recent tour of the Central Asian countries of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The concert will be 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, in Crooker Theatre of Brunswick High School.

On their tour, band members performed traditional American folk music on fiddle, banjo, guitar, accordion, mandolin, harmonica and bones, and also performed with traditional musicians from each of the countries, learning much about the beautiful and complex music of Central Asia, according to a spokesman. This will be an extraordinarily entertaining and educational program demonstrating the positive power of multicultural exchange, according to the spokesman.

In addition to the concert, which is sponsored by The International Club of Brunswick High under the direction of Bob Goddard, Old Grey Goose will give workshops for interested students at Brunswick High during the day, demonstrating their traditional American folk music and talking about their experiences of international cultural exchange throughout the world.

This February, the band will travel to Trinidad, Cuba, accompanied by a group of local community artists and musicians. Their trip will be under the sponsorship of the Rev. Stephen Concannon, pastor of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Brunswick, and The Brunswick Trinidad Sister City Association.

They will meet with the director of the St. Francis of Paula Catholic Church in Trinidad, the Rev. Giovanni Paz, distribute humanitarian aid to the parish; teach music, dance and art lessons to the community youth; and learn more about Cuban music from local musicians. When they return, they hope to present similar programs of their experiences to the community.

Tickets will be available at the door: $10 for general admission and $8, seniors and students.
