1919 – 2004
SOUTH PARIS – Clarence James Cyr, 84, of South Paris died Thursday, Jan. 22, at the Maine Veterans Home after a short illness.
He was born in Presque Isle on Dec. 31, 1919, the son of Clara Belanger Cyr Levesque and Cyrille Cyr. Coming to South Paris in his teens, he was employed as a farm worker and worked for many years at Paris Manufacturing Co. and A.C. Lawrence Leather Co. He was a U. S. Coast Guard veteran serving in World War II.
Mr. Cyr was an avid coin collector. He loved baseball and was a serious collector of trading cards, a hobby shared with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by three children and their spouses, a son, Carroll and his wife Loraine of North Berwick, a daughter, Connie and her husband Walter Lowell of Melbourne, Fla., a daughter, Cindy and her husband Patrick Helmer of Sebastian, Fla.; five grandchildren, Lori Edwards of South Paris, Matthew Cyr of Concord, N.H., Allison Cyr-Fischer of Wesley Chapel, Fla., Jaimi Pike of Vero Beach, Fla., and Jessica Helmer of Micco, Fla.; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Dufour of South Portland; and a brother, Benny Cyr of Waterford.
He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Katherine Andrews Cyr in 1990.
