WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins congratulated the Maine students selected as delegates and alternates for the 42nd annual U.S. Senate Youth Program. The delegates will visit Washington during the week of Feb. 28 to March 6.

Delegates include Steven Moran, Gray-New Gloucester High School.

Moran, who lives in Gray, is class representative, vice president of the National Honor Society and a member of the Math Team and the Octagon Club. He takes part in drama and cross country running. Moran plans to attend the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) and enter a career in politics.

Chad Szylvian, Brewer High School. Szylvian, a resident of Brewer, is class secretary and is second in his class. He is a defensive starter for the football team and a jazz pianist. He is a volunteer at Eastern Maine Medical Center and plans a career in medicine.

Moran and Szylvian will receive $5,000 scholarships.

Alternates are Joshua Cheney of Presque Isle High School and Adam Lovell of York High School.

The program is funded by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.
