DAMARISCOTTA – The Mid-Maine Rose Society will meet for a brown bag lunch at noon Sunday, Feb. 1, at Hodgdon Green, Damariscotta Village. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m.
Speaker will be Eliza Sweet on “Landscaping with Roses.” The People, Places and Plants Flower Show will be held from Feb. 28 to March 7 in Portland. A rose sale will take place at 9 a.m. May 22 Foster’s Auction House, Route 1, Newcastle.
Cheese program
ROCKPORT – The Maine Cheese Guild will sponsor a presentation by FROMAGEX, the North America distributor for Ets Coquard, a French company which sells cheesemaking equipment and supplies, at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 1, at the cheese company, Route 1. All are welcome to the free program.

Field trip
BRUNSWICK – Join MerryMeeting Audubon in looking for the unusual and the expected along the coast to Rockland and surroundings during a field trip from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31.

Writing workshop
BATH – Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance will present “Writing Historical Fiction,” an intensive seminar with instructor Ellen Cooney on techniques, approaches and strategies for writers who are beginning or planning a work of fiction taking place in the past.
The class will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at the office. Bring a brown bag lunch. Space is limited to 15.
