1930 – 2004

WATERVILLE – Albert B. Wells, 73, of 499 Fairbanks Road, Farmington passed away in Waterville, on Jan. 28, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in North Anson, June 8, 1930, the son of Venora Wells and Florence Bradley Mayhew. In 1950, he married Gladys Elaine Adams. He attended New Vineyard schools and graduated from Farmington, H.S. After graduation he joined the U.S. Army, spending six months in Korea.

For many years he was employed at Ray’s Market in Farmington and then he became the proprietor of Jack’s Trading Post in 1968. In his retirement years he worked as a surveyor for the state. He was a past Commander of the American Legion Post 28, of Farmington. He was also a member of the Royal Order of Masons, Maine Lodge 20 A.F. & A.M. of Farmington, and a former member of the Lion’s Club.

In the spring of 2003, the Daughters of the American Revolution presented him with the HODAR award. A gentle man with a hearty handshake, his passions included spending time with his family, making baskets, vegetable gardening, helping the women of the Red Hats and DAR, attending his grandchildren’s athletic events, and cooking. His biscuits and popovers were particular highlights on many occasions.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine of Farmington; his children, Jeffrey, Sheryl Wells-Duras, Michael, and Patrick, their respective spouses, Donna, Al, Sandy, and Cheryl; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert Wells of Farmington and Donald Wells of South Hampton, Mass.
