WELD – SAD 9 has received more than $10,000 in grant money from MBNA to use to purchase materials that support students.

SAD 9 is able to apply for grants through the world’s largest independent credit card issuer because the company has a tele-sales office in Farmington, one of the municipalities in the nine-town school district, said Assistant Superintendent Sue Pratt.

A $650 grant went to the Weld School to purchase a computer projector and scanner. The projector will be used for teaching and student presentations and the scanner will be used to scan and digitally save students’ work.

Meanwhile, Mount Blue Middle School picked up $6,766 for teacher Heidi Locke-Talbot, a Title 1 teacher, to use toward buying desktop computers and software, as well as more reading materials, for her students.

Chris Brinkman, the middle school’s technology coordinator who oversees the computer lab and supervises the laptop initiative at the school, was awarded a $4,500 grant to purchase new technology.

“They are very supportive of the district,” Pratt said of MBNA.
