DIXFIELD – Chris Richards and Marc Gagne combined for 15 points in a second-quarter surge that sparked Dirigo to a 69-54 MVC victory Friday night over Winthrop.
Dirigo (4-13) outscored Winthrop 25-9 in the period to break open a tie game. The Cougars padded the lead with another 21-14 gain in the third quarter.
Richards finished with 19 points and nine rebounds for Dirigo. Gagne and Trevis Knapp each added 10, with Gagne nailing a pair of 3-pointers. Brandon Berry added nine points and five steals, while Jon Pineau complemented his eight points with seven assists.
Mike Gingras led Winthrop (7-9) with 21 points. Max Beauregard added 12.
Rangeley 63, Vinalhaven 55
VINALHAVEN – Jim Goodwin racked up 34 points and 14 rebounds to lead Rangeley to a 63-55 EWC win over Vinalhaven.
David Jensen added 15 points, while Brian White dished out seven assists for the Lakers (10-5). Josh Doughty, Eric Beckman and Dusty Hufsey each scored 14 points to pace the Vikings (4-11).
Hall-Dale 66, Monmouth 42
MONMOUTH – Junior center Matt Wheelock scored 20 points to lead a balanced attack as Hall-Dale cruised to a 66-42 MVC win over Monmouth.
Hall-Dale (15-2) doubled Monmouth’s scoring effort in taking a 24-12 halftime lead. Ben Laflin recorded 12 points for the Bulldogs, while Jon Viti tallied another 10 in the win.
Senior guard Mark Wade scored 23 points, including four 3-pointers for Monmouth (2-14).
Poland 73, Sacopee Valley 37
POLAND – Poland set a school record for boys’ basketball victories in one season with its seventh WMC triumph, a 73-37 rout of Sacopee Valley.
Max Levine led the Knights (7-9) with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Josh Pomerleau added 14 points and five steals, while Alex Smith chipped in 12 points and eight boards.
Eric Strout scored 16 points and Jesse Stacey added 15 for the Hawks (2-12).
St. Dom’s 51, Gray-NG 45
AUBURN – St. Dom’s recovered from a two-point third quarter to outscore Gray-New Gloucester 24-10 in the fourth and claim a 51-45 WMC victory.
Jeremy Richardson and Nate Hamlyn each scored nine points in the fourth as the Saints (12-2) overcame a 35-27 deficit. Ian Pullen led St. Dom’s with 16 points. Richardson added 11 and Hamlyn 10.
Ralf Spanheimer paced the Patriots (4-12) with 10 points. Louie Bernardin dropped in 11.
Livermore Falls 57, Boothbay 56
LIVERMORE FALLS – Junior forward Dane Hanson scored a crucial free throw, his only point of the contest, as Livermore Falls escaped with a 57-56 MVC upset of Boothbay.
Livermore Falls (4-12) senior guard Mike Chamard led all scorers with 19 points, nailing 15 in the second half.
The Andies led by six with less than two minutes to go in regulation when Boothbay (9-7) clawed its way back into the game with the help of Livermore Falls’ missed free throws.
With nine seconds left on the clock and the Andies leading by three, Hanson hit one-of-two foul shots before the Seahawks responded with a desperation 3-pointer.
Mt. Abram 53, Carrabec 27
NORTH ANSON – Sterling Pingree led all scorers with 21 points as Mt. Abram won its third straight MVC game, 53-27 over Carrabec.
Jordan Norton scored all 10 of his points in the first quarter, when the Roadrunners (6-10) opened a 22-5 lead. Eric Field added a dozen points for Mt. Abram.
Josh Turner led the Cobras (0-16) with 10 points.
