BUCKFIELD – Selectmen will determine the action to take on three properties cited as automobile graveyards at their meeting Tuesday.

They are owned by Allen Young of 18 Shed Hollow Road, James Bishop of 10 Depot St., and Roger Bennett of 17 Depot St.

The Depot Street sites are in the village.

Town Manager Cindy Dunn said Bishop and Bennett had been contacted as early as October 2000 about the condition of their yards.

“The Maine State Police also started gathering information then,” Dunn said. “In December 2002, Bishop was notified about his unlicensed yard and Bennett received the same notice.” She said the notices came from the town’s attorney, who is working to assist the state police.

Dunn said Young’s first written notice came in May 2003.

“He had too many cars on his property,” Dunn said. “He would be eligible for a license. It’s just a matter of him going through the process.”

Dunn said the Depot Street locations would not meet the setback requirement of 100 feet from a road.

Bishop and Bennett’s cases had a deadline of Dec. 31 to comply. At the Jan. 6 meeting, selectmen authorized an extension to Feb. 3.

The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m.
