WILTON – Selectmen, Town Manager Peter Nielsen and the attending public will tour the new addition to the East Dixfield Fire Station at the beginning of the selectmen’s meeting Tuesday. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at that Fire Station on Route 2.
Both towns own and share the funding of the East Dixfield Fire Department. Last year voters agreed to take $45,000 from surplus to pay half the cost of a two-bay addition to the East Dixfield Fire Station, the other half of the $90,000 project was paid for by the town of Dixfield.
The year before voters approved taking $2,000 from the town’s surplus to purchase half ownership in a 1979 tanker truck to be placed at the fire station. The truck was purchased from the Dixfield Fire Department.
In other business, Nielsen will give officials a report on the wood harvesting project on the Old Guy Chandler property. A tour of the project will be held Thursday, Feb. 5. The harvesting is taking place on the south end of the Guy Chandler Road on 131 acres of town owned property. About 50 acres will be cut yielding approximately 610 cord of pulpwood and 120,000 board feet of saw logs. Last October officials awarded a bid for the wood harvesting to L&A Ridley of Wilton.
Officials will hear a quarterly report from Water and Sewer Department Superintendent Russ Mathers. They will review and take appropriate action on the 2004 Water Department Budget Proposal.
Officials will consider appointing a fire chief for the Wilton Fire Department. Last month former Fire Chief Fred Hyde announced to selectmen that he was resigning effective immediately. Hyde said he left the position due to “personal problems I’d rather not get into.”
Officials will sign a pole permit for Central Maine Power and Nielsen will also report on a water issue on Bennett and Thompson streets.
