1929 – 2004

TURNER – Donald A. Everett Sr., 74, of Turner, died unexpectedly at his residence.

Born Dec. 28, 1929, in Brewer, the son of Grace Leathers Everett and Delmar Everett. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Brewer High School class of 1949. He married Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Doherty, the love of his life, and childhood sweetheart in 1950.

“Don” worked for Border Express as a trucker and dispatcher for 10 years. In 1960, he and Betty moved to Lewiston to build Lewiston Supersonic Car Wash. A few years later, with his and Betty’s hard work, they were able to build Minute Man Car Wash. He also sold car washing supplies throughout New England.

In 1974, he lost his wife, Betty. In dedication to her, he named his new store and gas station in Lewiston, Elizabeth Ann General Store.

He was always thinking ahead of his time in the business world as this was the first 24-hour store in the area. In 1996, he expanded his operation again by opening up Elizabeth Ann Xpress Lube.

He was an avid outdoorsman and Atlantic salmon fisherman. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, spending time at his camp with his grandchildren, friends, and his dogs. He was a member of the Masons and Shriners. He was proud to be a blood donor for the American Red Cross, receiving an award for his decades of donating.

He is survived by a son, Donald Jr. and his wife Sharon of Portage; daughters, Barbara Everett of South Portland and Janet Yannelli and her husband Bruce of Winthrop; grandchildren, Christine Everett, James Everett, Tracy, Brian and Alan Yannelli; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ashlynne, and James.

He was predeceased by an infant son, James; and brother, Phillip.
