On Feb. 8, Mainers get the opportunity to help select a presidential candidate. Attend a caucus or go to the Maine Democratic Party Web site and get an absentee ballot application. Independents can register as Democrats at the caucus. As we know from 2000, every vote counts.

I will be supporting Gen. Wesley Clark. He has the executive experience, intelligence and skill to return honesty to the White House; to end the secrecy covering up the White House pursuit of private interests; to restore our moral authority and leadership in the world; to honor our veterans and our commitments to them; refocus our efforts on the war on terrorism; to protect our jobs from predatory foreign competition; to educate our children; to provide universal health care; and to enforce everyone’s right to be treated equally and fairly in civil society; and to restore prudent, responsible fiscal policy.
