1915 – 2004

LEWISTON – John H. Violette Sr., 88, of 88 Village Drive, Lewiston, died Sunday, Feb. 1, at d’Youville Pavilion, following a short illness.

Born in Presque Isle, Sept. 25, 1915, the son of Julia Michaud, he had been a resident of this community for most of his life.

He was educated in Lewiston schools. He was employed as a letter carrier for the Lewiston Post Office for 30 years, until his retirement in 1976.

He had served with the U.S. Army in World War II with the 648th and 803rd Tank Destroyer Battalion. He served 13 months in England, France and Germany.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 22, member of the Holy Name Society of SS. Peter and Paul Church, Lewiston Senior Citizens, SS. Peter and Paul Church, Fairlawn Country Club and the Lewiston Seniors Bowling League. He was an avid card player, golfer and bowler.

He was a very well liked man. He was a great husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, the former Marguerite Letendre, whom he married on March 28, 1944 of Lewiston; three sons, Robert Violette and his wife, Lucille of Lewiston, John H. Violette Jr. and his wife, Jacqueline of Lewiston and Ron Violette of Raynham, Mass.; one daughter, Jane A. Miner and her husband, Tom of East Holden; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Lajoie; and his brother, Patrick Violette.
