PHILLIPS – The Phillips Men’s Club will meet for a 6:15 supper Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Community House. This is a ladies night and musical entertainment will be provided. Team 2 with Capt. Dick Roberts and members Corty Dill, Earl Berry, Wayne Knapp, Jim Carroll, Charles Mitchell and Ray Ellis will serve.
Food day
WILTON – According to Maine Farm Bureau, Food Check-Out Day will be recognized on Thursday, Feb. 5 this year. This is the day that the average American has earned enough income to pay for his/her family’s food supply for the entire year. The Franklin County Farm Bureau is seeking donations to help support the Ronald McDonald Houses of Maine. Donations will be accepted from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at a display at the Save-A-Lot Grocery Store. A local pizza restaurant is also providing coupons to anyone who supports this cause. Local radio station, WKTJ, will again feature agricultural trivia questions. Winners will receive gift certificates for items produced by growers and processors from this area. Church spaghetti
FARMINGTON – A spaghetti supper will be held Friday, Feb. 6, at St. Joseph’s Church Hall to benefit the Syncopations who will also perform. The meal begins at 5:45 p.m. and is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. The high school group, the Syncopations, will perform in Carnegie Hall this spring. Meal prices are $5 for adults, $3 for children under 12 or $20 for a family.
Benefit supper
KINGFIELD – A benefit supper for Maurice Lambert who has undergone heart surgery will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at the Kingfield Elementary School. Lambert was Kingfield’s fire chief for many years and he has done community work within the town. The menu includes meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, peas, carrots, cole slaw, assorted cakes and beverages.
Poker Run
VIENNA – The Vienna Mountaineers will sponsor a Poker Run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, starting at the Vienna Community Room. All pickup spots may be reached by snowmobile or by vehicle. Square and Compass
NEW SHARON – The Square and Compass Club will sponsor a public dinner from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, at the New Sharon Methodist Church to raise funds to benefit the new Masonic Lodge hall. The menu includes roast pork and gravy, applesauce, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, rolls, pies and beverages. Adults, $6; children under 12, $4.
Jay caucus
JAY – Jay Democrats will convene for chili, chowder and a caucus Sunday, Feb. 8, at the Jay Middle School Cafeteria. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Caucus will start at 2 p.m. Voting will be held on county committee members, Jay town Democratic officers, chairman, vice chairman, secretary, treasurer, town election clerks, delegates and alternates to the State Convention. The presidential apportionment will start at 2:30 p.m. Once the group starts the presidential process, no one else can join in. This will be the only time that Democrats will be able to voice their choice for a presidential candidate.
Chesterville caucus
CHESTERVILLE – The Chesterville Democratic caucus will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, at the Chesterville Town Hall.
Choral group performing
STARKS – Northfield, an a cappella choral group, will perform its mix of traditional music and period pieces at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, at the Church of Christ, Starks Presbyterian Church on Route 43. The performance will be followed by a 6:30 p.m. dinner reception at Memorial Hall. Turkey and beverages will be provided. Those attending are asked to bring a dish. Woodlot classes
FARMINGTON – A series of meetings called Working With Your Woodlot will be held during February and March at Mount Blue High School. The meetings will start from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, and continue on consecutive Tuesdays except for school vacation on Feb. 16. Subjects to be covered include introduction to agroforestry, estate planning, timberstand improvement, managing for wildlife, land owner relations program (public use of private land), planning for a timber harvest, marketing forest products, timber trespass, woodland certification and a field trip. There will be a $10 charge for course materials. The course will be canceled after the first night if less than 10 people are registered.
