WILTON – Appointments for residents of Franklin County for the Low Income Home Heating Assistance Program continue to be scheduled by Western Maine Community Action.

For those who have not applied since July 1, 2003, applications will be taken through April 30 for this program year. Applicants must have an appointment, which they can get by calling 645-3764 or 1-800-645-9636 and asking for fuel assistance.

HEAP is a supplemental program designed to assist in paying part of a household’s heating costs. It is not an emergency program.

Application appointments are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Community Action’s Service Center at Cousineau’s Mall on routes 2 and 4 in East Wilton.

Information gathered during the intake process for HEAP is also used for the Low Income Assistance Program (formerly known as the Electric Lifeline Program) and for the Telephone Lifeline Program. LIAP may be able to assist those eligible with a credit on their Central Maine Power Co. bill.

The Telephone Lifeline Program gives a monthly credit on their telephone bill. If an eligible client does not have a phone, it can help with an installation as well as the monthly credit.
