LISBON – Brian Michaud of the Recreation Committee has been elected to chair the newly established 12-member task force that will study the possible re-use of the town’s two elementary school buildings to be closed at the end of the school year.
The panel will meet at 4 p.m. each Monday at the Town Office. The end of March has been set as the deadline for a report and recommendations to be submitted to selectmen. All meetings are open to the public, Town Manager Curtis Lunt said.
Members of the task force are: Librarian Diane Nadeau; School Committee Chairman Layne Curtis; Community Development Director Dan Feeney; Judy Hardy-Goddard, general assistance director, who will also represent the Senior Citizens Club. Also, Deborah Danusky, Lisbon Falls Community Action Group; Bill Barr, Historical Society; David Hale, Lisbon Area Christian Outreach (LACO); Herbert “Pete” Reed, Advisory Board. Angela Parton, Sybilla Pettingill and Linda Cummings, representing the general public.
In other business this week:
• Kathy Tyson of the auditing firm of Runyon, Kersteen and Ouellette outlined the recently completed audit of the town for selectmen. She reported that Lisbon is one of the few towns that now has a complete inventory of its assets, which are valued at $20 million. She also reported the town is in excellent financial condition.
• Selectmen signed the annual dog license warrant as presented by Town Clerk Twila Lycette. There were 270 dogs listed as unlicensed, whose owners are now subject to a $25 late fee in addition to the license fee.
• Selectmen signed a weight-limit waiver requested by the Maine Department of Transportation for the Little River Bridge, permitting larger than normal construction vehicles to use the bridge during a reconstruction project this summer.
• Tax Assessor Gerald Samson reported to selectmen that the town’s tax assessment ratio is at 90 percent, but could drop to 80 percent next year due to new construction. The town was last revalued in 1990.
• Selectmen voted to send a letter on behalf of the town to state Rep. Robert Berube, R-Lisbon, and state Sen. Ken Blais, R-Litchfield, urging them to support a bill in the Legislature that would require the state to provide additional funding for county jails.
• Deborah Dunuski’s resignation from the Conservation Commission was accepted.
