Slick roads may have been a factor in the 4:30 p.m. wreck.

GRAY – A 12-year-old Connecticut boy was hurt and traffic was snarled for hours Friday after two trucks collided on Route 26.

Police said slick roads may have been a factor in the 4:30 p.m. wreck as one truck slid across the center line and struck the other head-on.

Investigators from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department were still investigating the crash late Friday night. The names of the drivers involved were not available.

Police said a 12-year-old boy riding in one of the trucks was the only one who suffered serious injuries. However, investigators later said those injuries were not as severe as they had first feared.

The boy was treated at a hospital and released.

Police were forced to block traffic on the busy stretch of highway as emergency crews made their way to the scene. Traffic was blocked more than an hour after the crash as investigators reconstructed the scene.

Friday afternoon commuter traffic, coupled with snow and freezing rain, caused traffic to come to a standstill at times.

Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputy Regan Goan said traffic was backed up from Gray Square to the fire station.

“Everyone was traveling very slow and there was a lot of traffic on the roads,” Goan said.
