AUBURN – Chris Brackett drained 23 points to lead Central Maine Community College to an 89-57 win over Unity in men’s basketball action at Kirk Hall Friday evening.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 44-24 lead at the end of the first half and never looked back as Chris Davis and, Chris Havens chipped in with 14 and 11 points respectivley.

Bates 80, Colby 73

WATERVILLE – Ramon Garcia torched the nets for a game-high 25 points to lead Bates College to an 80-73 men’s basketball victory over Colby at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Garcia went 7-9 from the field and was 5-7 from beyond 3-point range. Brian Gerrity chipped in with 20 points and three assists while Rob Stockwell rounded out the scorring for the Bobcats (15-5) with 19 points and 10 boards.

The White Mules (5-16) were led by Drew Cohen with 16 points, five rebounds, and five blocked shots. Andrew Jekins added 14 points in the loss.

Bowdoin 77, Tufts 65

BRUNSWICK – Four Bowdoin players scored in double digits to propel the Polar Bears past Tufts, 77-65.

Kevin Bradley led Bowdoin (13-8) with 15 points. Kyle Petrie added 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists. T.J. McLeod also had 14 points, and Mark Yakavonis chipped in a dozen.

CMCC 72, Unity 40

AUBURN – Jessica Newton poured in a game-high 24 points, including five 3-pointers to lead Central Maine Community College to a 72-40 victory over Unity in women’s basketball Friday.

The Mustangs broke open a close game in the second half, outscoring Unity 36-19. Ashley Swett added 22 points.

Bowdoin 58, Tufts 45

MEDFORD, Mass. – Top-ranked Bowdoin remained the nation’s only unbeaten NCAA Division III team with a 58-45 triumph over Tufts.

Lora Trenkle led the Polar Bears (20-0) with 13 points and five assists. Jenny Muller scored 10 points for Tufts (13-5), which lost at home for the first time this season.

Tufts crept within five points early in the second half, but Bowdoin held the Jumbos to one bucket over the next seven minutes and went on an 18-2 run to ice the win.

Men’s hockey
Norwich 4, Colby 2

WATERVILLE – Mike Boudreau made 45 saves as top-ranked Norwich won its 16th straight NCAA Division III men’s hockey game, 4-2 over Colby.

Brian Chisholm collected one goal and assisted the other for Colby (9-5-3).

Bowdoin 11, St. Michael’s 0

BRUNSWICK – Adam Dann, Shannon McNevan and Ged Wieschhoff each produced a hat trick to boost Bowdoin to an 11-0 win over St. Michael’s.

Women’s hockey
USM 2, Holy Cross 0

WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman forward Kerry Leonard scored a pair of second-period goals and goalie Karen Jamnik stopped all 15 shots she faced to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 2-0 win over Holy Cross in women’s ECAC hockey action Friday evening at Hart Center Rink.

Colby 3, Hamilton 1

CLINTON, N.Y. – Heather DeVito scored twice in the third period to lead Colby to a 3-1 win over Hamilton.

Kate Sweeney and Caitlin Hickey each notched two assists for the White Mules (3-13).
