BOWDOIN – Burnt Meadow Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, announces the DAR Good Citizen winners from two area high schools: Dominique D. Mathieu of Lisbon High School and Andre N. Marquis of Oak Hill High School in Wales.

Mathieu is a member of the National Honor Society and is active in student government. As president of Students Against Destructive Decisions she was responsible for the production of six public service announcements that have been aired statewide.

Mathieu has been active in sports, serving as captain for the basketball, softball and soccer teams. In the summer she has worked with elementary school students at a day camp in Auburn and has been supervisor for the Lisbon Recreation Department soccer camp.

This past summer she was selected by Youth to Youth International to be a leader at the national conference in Rhode Island, which was attended by more than 350 youth from all over the country. She is a peer counselor and a member of the Interact Club.

Marquis is a member of the Oak Hill football team and participates in the Physical Education Leadership Lab. He is an active member of the Oak Hill Legislative Assembly, which sponsors blood drives, fund-raisers, school dances and holiday baskets for the needy.

Marquis is a member of the drama club and takes part in the annual dance show. He is active in the local community as a volunteer helper for an elderly woman and a Big Brother to an 8-year-old boy.

He plans to attend the University of Maine at Farmington and major in education. To that end he is taking leadership classes at Oak Hill, which requires creation of lesson plans and some hands-on time with students.

Burnt Meadow Chapter will entertain the students and their parents at a luncheon on Saturday, April 10, in Bowdoin. Captain John Lacey, USN retired, will be the guest speaker.
