BETHEL – The Board of Directors for SAD 44 continued its review of the district’s policy manual Monday and made two appointments.
Superintendent David Murphy said many of the policies, which were written from 15 to 20 years ago, were very minimal in scope and need to be updated for today’s educational demands.
New ones have to be added to meet mandates.
“This is probably the most intensive review of our policy manual in the past 20 years,” said Murphy, “and the need to revise the manual stems from the fact that the education process in our schools is much more complicated than it was 20 years ago.”
“The members of the policy committee have worked hard all fall on this project and it is moving along very well because of their dedication to the work they have been charged with,” he said.
When finished, “hopefully before the school year ends in June,” more than 200 policies will have been updated.
Two readings of all policies or policy changes have to be held, per state law.
In other business, the board approved the recommendations by Murphy of Michael Bailey as Telstar High School junior varsity baseball coach and Rebecca Keen as custodian at Telstar High School.
