PORTLAND – Nate Gruz netted the eventual game-winner as Lewiston battled to a 3-1 triumph over Cheverus in Class A hockey action Thursday.

The Blue Devils (15-4) broke open the scoring in the 14th minute of the second period when Scott Geoffroy and Jason Dube set up Joe Gauthier, who found the back of the net. Dube elevated Lewiston to a comfortable 3-1 lead with an unassited goal midway through the final period.

Bryan Lavoie saved the Stags (14-5) from a shutout with a conversion from Adam Horrigan with just four seconds remaining in the contest.

Lewiston goaltender Brian Nason turned back 22 of 23 shots for the win.
