GORHAM – Evan Kerns found the back of the net at 12:13 of the first period for the eventual game-winning goal as Colby College handed the University of Southern Maine a 5-1 setback in men’s hockey action Friday evening.

The White Mules (11-6-3) took a three-goal lead at the end of the first period and never looked back in the win.

The Huskies (9-12-1) lone goal came from Ryan Wright on a power-play goal at `15:23 of the third period to avoid a shutout.

Salem State 5, Bowdoin 4

SALEM, N.H. – Mike Dowd netted the game-winner 21 seconds into overtime to lift Salem State to a 5-4 victory over Bowdoin in men’s hockey action Friday. Adam Dann scored the game’s opening goal for the Polar Bears (14-6) at the 13:09 mark of the first period on a power play.

Salem State (11-9-2) evened up the score twice in the second frame before Ryan Ferguson drove a go-ahead goal past George Papachristopoulos.

The game continued to go back-and-forth as Bowdoin and Salem State executed a short handed goal each in the third period.
