LEWISTON – Amanda Bryant drained a team-high 14 points and Kelsey Varney chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds to pace Lewiston to a hard-fought 48-44 win over Hampden in girls’ KVAC basketball action Friday evening.

The Blue Devils (12-3) used a stifling defense and balanced scoring in the second half to overcome a one-point, first-half deficit to pull out a victory. The Broncos were led by Jo Ghiringhelli with a game-high 16 points.

Skowhegan 66, EL 33

AUBURN – Bethany Sevey poured in 14 points to lead Skowhegan to a 66-33 KVAC win over Edward Little in girls’ basketball action Friday evening.

The Indians (15-1) burst out to a 28-9 lead at the end of the first half as Jessie Abbott added 11 points, including two 3-pointers to round out the scoring barrage.

The Red Eddies (2-14) failed to place a scorer in double digits.

Mt. Blue 56,

Oxford Hills 32

FARMINGTON – Freshman center Christina Mosher drilled 19 points to assist Mt. Blue in roaring past Oxford Hills, 56-32, in KVAC girls’ basketball action Friday.

Mosher scored 11 of her 13 points in the first quarter and garnered 12 rebounds.

Amy Mansir gave the Cougars (10-6) an extra push in the fourth quarter with eight points for an 18-7 frame. Senior forward Annie Foster had the team-high eight points with five from the line and a 3-point field goal for the Vikings (6-10).

Boys’ basketball

Leavitt 65, John Bapst 49

TURNER – Senior captain Jake Witham led the way with 22 points, including three treys, as Leavitt secured a 65-49 win over John Bapst in boys’ basketball action Friday.

Leavitt (2-14) found a rare dose of momentum in the second half to grab just its second win of the season. Jon Pirruccello and Brandon Powell rifled off 16 points apiece as the Hornets upended John Bapst (7-10). Senior guard Alex Means paced John Bapst with 12 points in the loss.
