AUBURN – A five-car pileup on Minot Avenue Friday backed up traffic in both directions as police and rescue crews made their way to the scene.

Nobody was seriously hurt in the 3:15 p.m. wreck, but three of the vehicles were extensively damaged in the chain reaction crash.

Police said Joshua Turner, 17, of Turner was stopped to make a left turn off Minot Avenue onto Hotel Road when his vehicle was bumped from behind by a truck driven by 41-year-old Joseph Proctor of South Paris.

Martha Yates, 54, of Mechanic Falls was driving behind Proctor and could not stop in time to avoid crashing into his vehicle. Behind Yates, Debbie Bernier, 37, of Poland was also unable to stop in time. Her vehicle struck Yates’ and then was rear-ended by a car driven by Laura Jarvis, 36, of Biddeford.

Damage to the 1998 Ford driven by Hutchinson and owned by Nancy Hutchinson was estimated at $5,000; to Proctor’s 1997 GMC, $2,500 and to Yates’ 2003 Pontiac, $2,000.

There was no damage to Bernier’s 2001 GMC or to the 1999 Pontiac driven by Jarvis and owned by Hart’s Auto Sales.
