The town was named as a beneficiary in the 1929 trust of Charles L. Green.

WILTON – Selectmen will discuss a bequest to the town from the Charles L. Green Testamentary Trust when they meet Tuesday. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Town Office.

Green’s 1929 trust will stipulated that, after the death of his widow, a trust would be created to benefit three nieces. Upon their deaths, the trust was to be divided between an old age home, Franklin Memorial Hospital and Wilton Academy.

The will also stated that if Wilton Academy ceased to exist that share would go to the town of Wilton. The income of that fund is to be used in some capacity for the benefit of Wilton high school students, under the annual auspices of the selectmen. The town recently received a check for $89,000 to establish the fund.

In other business, officials also plan to discuss an offer to the town of land and buildings on the Weld Road now owned by Phillips Van Heusen Corp. The company, which bought G.H. Bass several years ago, closed the Bass manufacturing plant in 1998. The town acquired the property, and it was transferred to the ownership of entrepreneur Randy Cousineau, who now rents space to several businesses. Van Heusen decided to also close the Bass distribution center on the Weld Road this year.

Selectmen also will consider appointing a new Wilton fire chief. Fred Hyde resigned from the position last month after about three years of service. The Fire Department has voted for Assistant Chief Sonny Dunham as the new chief. They are asking that selectmen confirm his appointment.

Officials will hear a legislative update from state Rep. Tom Saviello and a quarterly report from Recreation Director Frank Donald. Officials will also meet with Blueberry Festival Coordinator Shannon Smith to discuss plans for this year’s festival.

Town Manager Peter Nielsen plans to announce that the town is looking for a Rail Trail Advisory Committee member. Nielsen will also inform selectmen that a letter has been received by Franklin Memorial Hospital that Interim LifeStar Ambulance Director Olin Johnston is resigning.
