BUFFALO, N.Y. – Miroslav Satan scored a career-high four goals, including the 250th of his career, to lead the Buffalo Sabres to a 7-2 win over the Atlanta Thrashers on Monday.

Daniel Briere had a goal and two assists, while Ales Kotalik and Andy Delmore also scored, helping the Sabres to their fourth straight victory.

Satan’s third goal, which gave Buffalo a 6-1 lead two minutes into the third period, gave him 500 points in the NHL. It’s the third time this season – and seventh of his career – that he scored at least three goals.

Ilya Kovalchuk (team-high 30th goal) and Randy Robitaille scored power-play goals for the Thrashers, 1-9-2 in their last 12 games. Atlanta has not won consecutive road games since March 2003.

After winning each of their last three games by overcoming deficits, the Sabres made it easy on themselves, scoring two first-period goals. They built a 5-0 lead on Satan’s second goal, 53 seconds into the third period.

Satan opened the scoring with a power-play goal 14 minutes in. Set up by Alexei Zhitnik’s pass into the middle of the ice and just inside the blue line, Satan snapped a shot that hit a stick and skipped in over Pasi Nurminen’s left pad.

Satan then scored three times in an 8:24 span in the third period, capped by a backhander that beat Byron Dafoe from a bad angle to put the Sabres up 7-1 at the 9:17 mark.

NEW YORK – Zdeno Chara and Josh Langfeld scored 41 seconds apart in the third period to lift the Ottawa Senators past the free-falling New York Rangers 4-1 Monday.

Chara, who also had an assist and a fight in his second straight multipoint game, put Ottawa in front at 7:11 of the period. Then Langfeld found the loose puck in a scrum in front and scored to help the Senators to their fourth straight win since the All-Star break.

Islanders 1, Kings 1

UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Arron Asham scored early in the third period and Rick DiPietro stopped 29 shots, rallying the New York Islanders to a 1-1 tie with the Los Angeles Kings on Monday.

Maple Leafs 8, Penguins 4

PITTSBURGH – Owen Nolan scored twice and figured in Toronto’s first four goals, three in just over four minutes of the first period, and the Maple Leafs sent the Pittsburgh Penguins to an NHL-record 12th consecutive home loss, 8-4 Monday night.

Sturm made it 2-0 with his 17th goal midway through the first on the end of a tic-tac-toe passing play with Marleau and Scott Hannan.

LeClair’s power-play goal cut it to 2-1 in the first. He took a perfect centering pass from Michal Handzus and flicked into an open net for his 18th goal.

Thornton slipped a shot between Burke’s legs for a 3-1 lead in the second period. Cheechoo scored his 15th goal and Ricci scored his sixth goal 3:55 apart in the third period to put the game out of reach.
