Ordinance states the panel needs seven members.

WILTON – The town is seeking people interested in being considered for appointment to the Board of Appeals.

The board meets infrequently to consider appeals of zoning decisions made by the code enforcement officer and/or the Planning Board. They have only met twice in the past five years.

The town’s Zoning Ordinance stipulates there be seven members on the Board of Appeals, all residents of the town and serving without pay.

Town Manager Peter Nielsen said membership has dwindled to three through attrition. Selectmen appoint members.

The most recent person to leave the board is Robert Sween, who left Wilton to go to Florida. Within the last year the town advertised for board members with no response. They are now attempting to reach the public through a newspaper article for this important work.

Nielsen said the decisions made by the Appeals Board help shape Wilton’s future appearance and land uses. Interested people should contact Nielsen at 645-4961.
