AUBURN – Property owners living in the area of the proposed Summer Street sewer extension project would have to pay $7,571 each for their share of the project.
Sewer District Trustees discussed the project Tuesday. It was delayed last summer when the district was required to conduct a study to determine if there were Native American artifacts at the site. None were found.
On Jan. 28, bids were opened for the proposed sewer extension that would serve 22 existing residential properties and 28 that are proposed by the Auburn Housing Authority on Summer Street and Mayfield Road.
A $378,000 bid by Longchamps & Sons Inc., of Lisbon, was the lowest received.
Property owners may decide if they want sewer service. The Auburn Sewerage District can finance individual connection fees.
“I heard from five (property owners). It was two-yes, two-no, and one undecided,” said Superintendent Norm Lamie.
“It’s (the $7,571 connection fee) higher than I was hoping it would be,” he said. “By March 28, we will have to say go or no go.”
The board took no action.
In other business, trustees discussed bids for upgrading the heating and air conditioning system at the district office building at 268 Court Street. The builder installed the system in 1974.
The board awarded a $78,058 bid to Thayer Corporation, of Auburn. The Water & Sewerage Districts have $80,000 budgeted for the project. It does not include replacement of the boiler, which Lamie said is working. He said completion of the project is expected by July.
