NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Steve McNair underwent surgery Tuesday to remove a cracked bone spur from his left ankle.
The Tennessee Titans quarterback, the NFL’s co-MVP last season, is expected to take 10-12 weeks to recover.
“We are pleased that the surgery went as expected,” Titans general manager Floyd Reese said. “This procedure should alleviate any future ankle problems and will let him regain full strength sometime in May.”
McNair will begin rehabilitation Wednesday.
McNair sprained his left ankle Dec. 7 against Indianapolis when he was hit throwing a pass. He missed two games because of that injury and a sore right calf, but he completed the season that ended with a 17-14 playoff loss.
In 2002, McNair had bone spurs removed from his shoulder after the season.
He missed five games of the 1999 season following surgery to repair a ruptured disc in his back.
