JAY – Selectmen voted Monday to ask townspeople to authorize negotiations to buy 25 acres next to the North Jay Sewer Treatment Plant.

Town officials also agreed to ask voters to raise $10,000 to start work to expand a war memorial in Chisholm to reflect veterans of all wars and public safety members.

The existing monument honors veterans of World War II.

Selectmen also approved the Jay Fire Rescue Department’s roster, which includes Brian Shink as chief, Scott Shink as deputy chief, Rick Duguay as assistant chief of station No. 1 and Jim Shink as assistant chief at station No. 2.

Also serving in officer capacity are George Brown, captain at station No. 1, Edward Black as deputy warden, Dick Cook as safety officer and Gerry Pineau as captain at station No. 2.

The land next to the treatment plant on Jerry Street is expected to be needed to spray treated wastewater on it. The composition of the land is what is needed to accommodate the new guidelines, Town Manager Ruth Marden said.

The property is owned by the late Silas Wright’s family.

Superintendent of Sewer Department Mark Holt said about 20 acres of the property is fields. Some of the property is wooded and Look Brook runs through it. It is also near Sevenmile Stream.

Holt said he has the money set aside in a reserve account.

The asking price of the property to be negotiated is about $11,000, Holt said.
