LEWISTON – For the third consecutive year, Maine Forest Service and Androscoggin Valley Conservation District will offer an introductory management course for owners of woodland property.

The course will be offered for six weeks from 6:30 to 9 p.m., beginning on March 17 and running for five consecutive Wednesday evenings, plus a half-day field session on April 17.

Speakers from Maine Forest Service, Maine Inland Fish and Wildlife, Department of Conservation, Maine Natural Areas Program, Auburn Parks and Recreation Department and the U.S. Forest Service will be on hand to share their expertise.

The course will introduce participants to many of the common management issues facing landowners. Some of the subjects to be covered include tree identification, forest management plans, invasive species, alternative forest products and wildlife management.

“The class has been tremendously popular,” said Phoebe Hardesty, project manager for the conservation district. “The speakers really know their stuff, and aren’t at all shy about sharing information. The course has been structured to allow plenty of time at each session for questions and answers.”

A fee of $35 will be charged, and registration is required. For more information or to register, call the Androscoggin Valiey Conservation District at 753-9400, ext. 400.
