LOWELL, Mass. (AP) – David Inman’s goal 1:17 into the third period allowed the Lowell Lock Monsters to earn a 2-2 tie with the Portland Pirates during American Hockey League action Sunday.

Inman chipped a Jason Morgan pass into the top right corner, but Portland goaltender Maxime Ouellet stopped Lowell the rest of the way, including making six of his 39 saves in overtime.

Lowell (23-25-4-4) took a 1-0 lead 2:26 into the game when Ryan Vayda swept in a pass by Tomas Kurka.

Portland (22-17-10-8) responded with a goal by Mike Vigilante, who ripped a 20-foot shot past Jamie Storr (23 saves) late in the opening period.

Portland’s Colin Forbes was credited with his 14th goal when his centering pass deflected into the Lowell net off the body of Lowell defenseman Tomas Malec for the only goal of the second period.

Lowell tied a franchise record by receiving only two penalty minutes. The two teams combined for four penalty minutes, also tying a franchise record.
