Regarding “Inn owner appeals board decision,” Feb. 18 in the Oxford Hills edition, nine of the 12 paragraphs present Nick Castel’s point of view. As a Lovell resident, may I comment?

By publishing Castel’s claim that Lovell town officials were “dishonest and biased,” the Sun Journal is publishing information that I consider libelous and a defamation of character without requiring specifics.

I attended virtually all the hearings. The Lovell Zoning Board of Appeals has, in my opinion, bent over backward to provide Conway Lake Resorts Inc. with time, continuations and delays to enable it to present its case.

LBZA’s attorney was at all hearings, he was consulted and his advice followed. A walk-through of the Pleasant Point Inn site was made. The hearing process was thorough, professional and not biased. A complete transcript of the hearings was made. The charge of dishonesty is simply not credible.

Castel represented that CLR had an option to purchase the Pleasant Point Inn, contingent upon getting an approval of their plans to increase its capacity by 50 percent or more. Mr. Al Perry owns Pleasant Point Inn. Mr. Castel is a developer who may or may not own some part of CLR.

The proposed decrease in restaurant seats included a 14-fold increase in hours open. Please take another look so you can print a balanced and accurate presentation of the facts and not opinions.
