FARMINGTON – A West Farmington man has been charged with a felony because he allegedly flushed his girlfriend’s prescription medication down the toilet.

According to Detective Marc Bowering of the Farmington Police Department police responded around 10 p.m. Feb. 12 to a domestic dispute at a home in West Farmington.

Police spoke with the female resident there, who told them that during an argument earlier that night, Burchard Oliver, 44, had thrown her prescription pills in the toilet and flushed them away.

Around 170 pills, which the woman was taking for a medical condition, went down the drain, Bowering said.

Oliver had then fled the scene and was gone well before police arrived there.

Officer Bridgette Dellarma conducted an investigation, assisted by Sgt. Peter Barton and Sgt. Vern Stevens.

On Saturday, Christopher Chase of the Farmington Police Department arrested Oliver on a warrant. Oliver was booked at the Franklin County Detention Center.

He was charged with a Class D misdemeanor for stealing and a Class C felony for criminal mischief.

Bowering said that the stealing was for physically taking the pills from his girlfriend, knowing that they were not his and that she needed them for a medical condition. The criminal mischief charge is for flushing the pills, he said.

Oliver was released on $950 cash bail and has a March 24 date in district court.
