PARIS – Selectman Bruce Hanson proposed a new policy for the use of Moore Park at the town’s selectmen’s meeting Monday night.
“We are currently operating under a policy that was signed many, many years ago that we are currently in violation of,” he said.
The new Moore Park policy approved by the board is designed to fit the current usage of the park. Requests for use of the park for weddings, family reunions and other group and individual events will be coordinated and approved by the town manager, and should be made at least 14 days before the event.
Events such as the Concert in the Park series, which are sponsored by the Park Committee, will be given priority over other events. There is no residency requirement for park use.
Two talent bank applications were reviewed. Selectmen appointed Trudy Hamilton to the Conservation Committee and gave her an alternate position on the Budget Committee.
There was some disagreement as to whether or not there is an opening on the Planning Board, but selectmen agreed to give Hamilton the alternate position “if it is found to be available,” Hanson said.
Barbara Paine was approved to fill an unexpired term on the Public Utilities District.
Town Manager Steve McAllister suggested that a part-time opening for the deputy clerk’s position be combined with another part-time position as recreation director. The town is currently interviewing applicants for deputy clerk.
Hanson felt that it would be difficult to find a person who would fit both positions, but McAllister argued that it would be easier to fill one full-time position than two part-time positions. Selectmen agreed that since a full-time position would require the town to pay for health insurance and holiday pay, which were not budgeted for, the two positions would remain separate.
