NORWAY – Four law enforcement agencies seized more than $4,000 in cocaine and a variety of other drugs in a raid on a Norway couple’s home Saturday night.
The raid, led by Norway police, resulted in the arrest of six people.
Joseph A. Denbow, 38, and Tammy J. Duff, 29, both of 35 Dean Ave., were arrested at their residence. Denbow and Duff were charged with unlawful possession of schedule W drugs. Denbow was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Two minor children of Denbow and Duff were present when police raided the trailer. A relative was called to get the children while police searched the premises.
Duff also had two outstanding warrants.
Norway Police Sgt. Rob Federico said the arrests were a result of an anonymous tip received early Saturday afternoon.
“We had to do some fast footwork,” Federico said. “We had to draft a search warrant and then have a magistrate sign it.”
The raid happened so quickly that agents from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency were not able to be involved.
Federico enlisted the help of four other Norway officers, three Paris policemen, and one Oxford officer and Oxford County Sheriff Office’s deputy.
The raid occurred at 7 p.m. Also arrested in the trailer were Arthur H. Chagnon Jr., 50, 160 Beechwoods Road, Oxford; Heather Whiting, 21, of Bridgton; and Christy G. Clark, 21, 1223 Swamp Road, Bridgton.
Chagnon was charged with aggravated drug trafficking, a Class A felony.
Whiting was charged with possession of a scheduled drug Class B and C.
Clark was charged with unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and probation violation.
Federico said while police were in the trailer, Scott A. Perreault, 22, 87 Rabbit Valley Road, Oxford, phoned, asking for Denbow.
“The officer who picked up the phone told him Denbow was busy, bagging,” Federico said. “He asked if he could come over. The officer said, ‘Sure.'”
Perreault was arrested after he entered the trailer and was charged with trafficking of a schedule W drug, for allegedly possessing cocaine.
Federico said the total amount of drugs there including about 60 OxyContin pills and some crack cocaine had not been tabulated yet. The drug cache was sent to the crime lab in Augusta where it could be weighed and correctly identified.
As of Monday night, Perreault, Whiting and Clark remained at the Oxford County Jail.
Federico said police also impounded a vehicle and recovered a large amount of cash.
