LIVERMORE – An old-fashioned barn dance will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, in the mansion at Norlands Living History Center. The caller will be Bruce Thompson. Dances are held the fourth Saturday of each month. The whole family is welcome to come enjoy a night of dancing. Light refreshments will be served. Admission for adults is $5, with special family rates available.

Slalom race

FARMINGTON – The 52nd annual Dartmouth Trophy race will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Titcomb Mountain. The race is open to all Farmington Ski Club members (pass holders) ages 12 and under. It will be an easy, giant slalom on the main slope. Contestants can sign up at the Titcomb Mountain Lodge anytime before noon the day of the race.

Masonic program

FARMINGTON – Maine Lodge 20 will meet for a 6:30 p.m. supper Monday, March 1, at the lodge hall on Main Street. The meal will be followed by a business meeting and the conferring of the entered apprentice degree. All Masons are cordially invited to attend.

WILTON – The Western Maine Blacksmith’s Association will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, at the Historical Society. PHILLIPS – A youth center and activities planning meeting for Phillips, Avon and Madrid will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, at the United Methodist Church. The meeting will focus on brainstorming about youth activities. Interested citizens and youths are welcome to attend. ‘Pearl Earring’

FARMINGTON – Literacy Volunteers of Franklin and Somerset Counties will hold their annual movie benefit on Sunday, March 14, at Narrow Gauge Cinema. The film “Girl with a Pearl Earring” will be shown at 1:30 and 4 p.m.

The movie based on a best-selling novel, starts Colin Firth as painter Johannes Vermeer and Scarlett Johannsen as the subject of Vermeer’s famous Girl with a Pearl Earring portrait. Vermeer lived in the Delft in the Netherlands during the Dutch 17th century Golden Age of Painting.

AWAP volunteers

FARMINGTON – Abused Women’s Advocacy Project is seeking volunteers. Training sessions for interested volunteers will be held on Friday afternoons.

AWAP provides shelter, court advocacy, support groups and information to victims of domestic violence.

Training involves learning to help with crisis work with victims of domestic violence, with court watch, with children of domestic violence, with office work and presentations in the community, and with advocacy work for survivors.
