The coffeehouse is set up to welcome home returning GIs.

FARMINGTON – The G.I. Coffee House will open from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Old South Church on Main Street.

Franklin County is welcoming returning soldiers, families of troops and friends and veterans of all ages with the opening of this coffeehouse.

Folk singer Ruth Hill of North Jay will entertain from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on this first night. Music and coffee will be free of charge. Child care is available.

The coffeehouse is set up to welcome home GIs returning from Iraq, Afghanistan or any other assignment. Moral support for all military families is the reason for this twice-monthly coffeehouse. Everyone in the community is invited, organizers say.

The nonprofit coffeehouse idea came from the Western Mountains Peace Action Workshop and was endorsed by Old South Church. It is drawing on volunteers from many walks of life who want to show support for the troops and their families.

After the opening on Feb. 27, the next coffeehouse night will be Friday, March 12.
