The resilience of the “he lied” crowd is remarkable.

Each week brings more letters to this page liberally (ouch) sprinkled with phrases like “clearly” and “of course.” I will have to add these to the 2004 list of overused phrases.

By the way, the current Democratic front-runner is “Did you know I served in Vietnam?” thanks to John Kerry.

The sky is purple. There, I said it at last. Now, two confessions.

I’m a Democrat. Now I’ll get a bunch of letters affirming my rights, under the laws of diversity, to proclaim the sky to be whatever color makes me feel good about myself. If it later turns out the correct color is blue, well we must look to the future

and not dwell on the past.

I’m a Republican. Now I’ll be vilified for suggesting that one color is better than another. And, heaven forfend, I later learn that the sky is really blue. Then it’s: He lied. We must look to the past and not dwell on the future.

“Of course” President Bush had an Iraq plan in place as soon as he took office. He inherited it from the Clinton administration who “clearly” developed one in response to years of threats and terrorism from Islamists. He just never had the nerve to do anything with it except pass it on. Well, he blew up an aspirin factory. Perhaps his intelligence was flawed.

It’s only February and the hypocrisy is palpable, the double standards running rampant.
