PORTLAND – An eighth-grade student from Cathedral School was taken into police custody for allegedly having a weapon in school.

School officials became aware of the situation when another student reported the student claimed to have a gun.

The student was separated from the rest of the students and a Crossman 77-caliber pellet gun was removed from the student’s book bag. There was no indication the student threatened anyone. The Portland police were called to the school and the student was taken into custody.

The student is a minor and the name will not be released.

The police will conduct an investigation and a sschool spokesperson said the school will cooperate fully with that investigation.
