NEW SHARON – Voters are scheduled to elect eight people to serve in municipal and school government at the annual town meeting Saturday.

More than 100 residents attended the meeting last year. Selectman Jim Smith said he expects at least that amount this year.

Nominations are expected from the floor for three selectmen, treasurer, town clerk, road commissioner, tax collector, water district and SAD 9 school director.

Among the people indicating they’re running again are selectmen Jim Smith, Maynard Webster and Bill Lane.

All selectmen have served more than 20 years on the board. Smith has been a selectman since 1961, except for in 1999 when he was not re-elected.

Webster has served on the board since 1977, and Lane for more than 20 years.

Longtime Town Clerk Ellen Grant, Treasurer Miriam Smith and Road Commissioner Kevin Brann have also indicated they would run, Smith said.

Smith said he also expects SAD 9 Chairman of the Board Greg Webber to seek re-election.
