FARMINGTON – The Farmington Republicans elected delegates to this year’s GOP State Convention at their caucus on Lincoln’s birthday, Feb. 12. The state convention will be May 14 and 15 in Augusta.

Delegates elected at the meeting included: former Rep. Walter Gooley; Maine House candidate Lance Harvell; Fred O. Smith, re-elected Farmington Republican chairman; Vice Chairman Bill Crandall; Leroy Gilbank, re-elected Farmington Republican Committee treasurer; Joy Gilbank; Patrick Loring; and Christine Rice.

As there are several delegation vacancies, Smith has been authorized to fill them by March 27. People interested in filling a position may contact him at 778-4177 or by fax at 779-0716. Any vacancies that occur after the filing date or at the convention can be filled by Gooley, the delegation’s chairman, who may be reached at 778-2368.

Elected as representatives to the Franklin County Republican Committee were Harvell, the Town Committee secretary; Crandall; and Fred O. Smith II.

Smith addressed the caucus in his capacity as chairman of Franklin County Re-elect President Bush, assisted by Gooley.

State Sen. Chandler Woodcock spoke about the progress of the 2004 Maine Republican Platform Committee. He also reported that the new Senate district lines in the state will mean he would lose Jay and pick up Belgrade.
