1908 – 2004

VENICE, Fla. – Sylvia Mikkonen Wesanen, 62, of Venice, Fla., and formerly of West Paris, and Quincy, Mass., died on March 1.

She was born in West Paris on March 21, 1908, the daughter of Elias and Katri (Komulainen) Mikkonen. After attending West Paris schools through graduation, she studied violin privately in the 1920’s. On Nov. 11, 1941, she married Allan Wesanen.

While in Quincy for most of her adult life, she was a member of the Quincy Women’s Group and the Quincy Congregational Church. For many years she presented violin performances for various churches and organizations. During this period, she and her husband Allan would spend much of their wintertime on Long Island, Fla.

Enjoying her life, she had many interests and avocations, among them were entertaining family and friends, of whom there were many, preparing wonderfully cooked meals and desserts, gardening and keeping up with the world of Hollywood movies and their stars.

She is survived by two sisters, Alma Dixon of Norway and Hilma Hudson of South Yarmouth, Mass.; five nephews, Norman Gellatly of Auburn, Ronald Coolidge of Quincy, Mass., Jon Hudson of South Yarmouth, Mass., Robert Dixon of East Bridgewater, Mass., and Allan Hudson of Dennis, Mass.; one niece, S. Jean Josephs of Surprise, Ariz.; special friends, Ed and Deb MacNeal of Englewood, Fla., who comforted her in her last years.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1987; a sister Miina Coolidge on March 5, 1995; and sister, Olga Gellatly on Feb. 6.
